Abstract: Things in our lives are being connected at a remarkably fast speed, blurring the boundaries among physical, biological, and cyber systems. Internet-of-Things (IoT) are getting deeply embedded in our society where smart objects that are wirelessly connected to each other and eventually through the Internet. IoT has come a long way from precursor technologies such as wireless sensor networks to Artificial Intelligence (AI) through Cloud computing, edge computing and federated learning. In this keynote talk, we will take a look at the spectrum of technologies relevant to IoT, examine the lessons learned from several use-inspired applications, and consider future directions in the context of 6G.
Short Bio: Baek-Young Choi is a Professor of Computer Science in the College of Engineering and Computing at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T). She joined Missouri S&T in Fall 2025 after serving for twenty years on the faculty at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
